Barnes Lab
Betsy J. Barnes, PhD
Laboratory of Autoimmune and Cancer Research
Investigating how blood cells develop, how immune responses are regulated, and how these processes change in anemia, autoimmunity, and cancer.
Our laboratories
We advance pediatric research through complementary approaches. The Barnes Lab studies immune regulation in autoimmunity and cancer, while the Blanc Lab investigates red blood cell development and inherited anemia. Together, we examine how inflammation affects blood formation and contributes to disease.

Our science
How red blood cells develop—from early progenitors to mature cells—and how ribosomal defects disrupt this process in inherited anemia.
